Our Services

LOTS' primary focus is on the early intervention population, birth to six years old.  LOTS assesses and treats language development, speech sound production, social communication, fluency, and early literacy skills. We also provide parent/caregiver education and training.  Brief descriptions are provided below.

Language Development

Helping children understand what they hear and to use words (or other appropriate forms of communication) to express their wants and needs. Modeling, expansion, parallel talk, narration, communication temptations, and a host of other techniques are used during engaging play-based therapy to facilitate language development.

Speech Sound Production

Helping children say sounds and articulate words such that their speech is intelligible, and they communicate verbally with confidence. Engaging activities are used to teach correct tongue and lip placement, provide auditory discrimination training, and encourage consistent repetition of sounds in words, syllables, phrases, sentences, and continuous speech.

Social Communication

Helping children learn and use the rules of social interaction which includes but is not limited to eye contact, joint attention and referencing, taking turns, personal space, understanding intonation, verbal and visual cues, etc. Play-based, child-center interventions are used to build rapport, model, and teach functional social communication.

Fluency

Helping children develop a healthy, confident attitude towards communication while reducing the frequency, severity, and physical tension of stuttering. Focus is on prompting smooth, effortless speech by utilizing a variety of evidence-based strategies and reducing environmental stress.

Early Literacy Skills

Helping children bridge oral language skills with reading and writing foundations by fostering development of phonological awareness, vocabulary, and narrative skills. Interactive books, magnetic letters and numbers, puzzles, and a variety of toys and games are used to foster the development of essential early reading and writing skills.

Parent/Caregiver Education and Training

Providing education and training to parents to help them develop healthy environments to facilitate receptive and expressive language development, intelligible speech, effective social communication, fluent speech patterns, and literacy-rich routines.
